A Story of Balance: The PID Control

I recently came across a fascinating artwork from South Korea titled “Round Table,” shared due to my passion for STEAM. This piece utilizes a PID Control with a ball-and-plate setup, where the plate is balanced by headless strawmen tied around the base. The ball, known as “the head,” shifts, prompting the strawmen to adjust and rebalance it continuously. This artwork powerfully symbolizes the relentless struggle of the working class striving to claim the elusive “head” in their midst.

You might be wondering what is a PID control?  A PID control is a type of feedback control system that uses a combination of proportional, integral, and derivative terms to regulate a system. The proportional part looks at how far away things are from where they should be. The integral part looks at how long things have been going wrong which helps to eliminate steady-state errors. The derivative part pays attention to how fast things are changing and helps to prevent overshoot and oscillation. In Summary PID control, uses three strategies, to maintain control:

• • Proportional: Responds to current errors by adjusting in proportion to the deviation.

• • Integral: Addresses accumulated past errors to mitigate ongoing deviation.

• • Derivative: Reacts to the rate of error change, smoothing the response to prevent too rapid corrections.

This technology in the “Round Table” not only controls but tells a story, highlighting the artistry behind technical design, making the concept of a closed-loop system memorable and relatable.

As we all know, Art inspires creativity in all of us so here is my story about PID and I told it in a way on how the three guardians help in balancing the heart in the world of chaotic in a world of dating relationship.

A Story of Balance: The Heart Protector

In the enchanted realm of Shuri, nestled among whispering forests and shimmering rivers, there existed a curious platform known as the “Circle of Balance.” Upon this platform rested a mystical orb, “The Heart of Shuri,” which was said to hold the peace and harmony of the entire kingdom.

The Guardians

Three guardians were chosen by ancient magic to protect the Heart. They were called the Proportioner, the Integrator, and the Derivative. Each had a unique gift, crucial for maintaining the balance of the Heart.

1. 1. The Proportioner: Strong and immediate, she reacted swiftly whenever the Heart drifted from the center. Her strength was in direct response to the distance the Heart strayed; the further it went, the stronger she pushed.

1. 1. The Integrator: With a deep memory and a patient spirit, she corrected the subtle drifts that accumulated over time. Her power grew the longer the Heart remained off-center, providing a cumulative force that guided it gently back to harmony.

1. 1. The Derivative: Quick and perceptive, she sensed the speed of the Heart’s motion. If the Heart rolled too fast, she anticipated its path and applied a precise counterforce to slow its haste and prevent sudden jerks, smoothing its journey back to the center.

The Challenge

One fateful night, a tempest arose, fueled by the dark magic of a forgotten sorcerer, aimed at throwing the Heart into chaos. As the winds howled and the earth trembled, the Heart began to oscillate wildly, pushed by the invisible forces of discord.

The Guardians’ Struggle

The Proportioner pushed against the winds with all her might, her efforts proportional to the chaos. The Integrator, calm and resolute, countered the lingering pulls of the tempest, her force growing with each passing moment that the Heart was out of place. The Derivative, with eyes sharp as an eagle, calculated the rapid movements of the tempest, applying her power deftly to calm the tumult.

Epilogue

As dawn broke, the tempest subsided, exhausted by its own fury. The Heart of Shuri though tested, remained centered and calm, thanks to the tireless defense of the Guardians. The kingdom awoke to a beautiful day, the balance restored, blissfully unaware of how close they had come to chaos. They dodged a bullet.

This story illustrates the guardians’ battle to maintain balance amidst chaos, it also mirrors the delicate equilibrium we navigate daily, whether in personal relationships, like the intricate dance of dating, or in the natural world, where unseen forces tirelessly work to maintain harmony.
