Building Our Own Table by Sharon Hurley Hall

Our current President Chioma Aso, was featured in Sharon Hall’s Building Our Own Table Series where she discussed the future of STEAMDivas and the unique space we are creating for young girls in STEM.
One of the most exciting discussion she shared is STEAMDivas Haven, a space designed to combine hands-on STEM exploration with a a nurturing, community-building atmosphere.

What is STEAMDivas Haven?
STEAMDivas Haven is our vision for a place where girls can come together, learn, and thrive in STEM fields, all while building lasting social connections. Inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of Black hair salons, this space will blend informal discussions with hands-on STEM experiences. Whether it’s brainstorming over scientific ideas or simply exploring creativity, STEAMDivas Haven will serve as a unique hub where innovation and empowerment meet.

The Power of Arts and STEM
At STEAMDivas, we emphasize the importance of blending the arts with STEM education to spark creativity and foster innovation. By integrating these fields, we’re giving young girls the tools to explore and excel in both creative and technical domains. In the interview, I talked about how this approach empowers students to think beyond the traditional boundaries of STEM.

What’s Next?
In addition to STEAMDivas Haven, we have several exciting projects lined up to continue our mission of bridging the gender gap in STEM. From our ongoing hackathons to our mentorship programs, we’re committed to making STEM accessible and inspiring for girls everywhere.
